Weird URLs Be Gone! Google+ Opens Vanity/Custom URLs For Certain Accounts

Saurabh Sharma is the project manager at Google; she announced yesterday on Goolge+ that they are releasing tardily the ability for users and business to create their own vanity or custom URLs on Google+.

When can I get mine? Google said:

At first, we're introducing custom URLs to a limited number of verified profiles and pages. But over time we plan to offer custom URLs to many more brands and individuals, so please stay tuned!
Brands, Celebrities & The Oatmeal:

Some of those verified accounts that now have custom URLs include Delta Airlines, Britney Spears, Hugh Jackman, Toyota and others while mine is SEMandSEO News but for now there are few of them who got vanity URL for their Google Plus (like David Beckham, Hugh Jackman and Britney Spears, as well as famous brands Hugo Boss, Toyota and Delta have acquired specialized urls)

I do hope Google 301s the outdated URLs to the new vanity URLs. Forthwith, both plus.google.com/105349855792673573254/ and plus.google.com/+britneyspears/ return the similar page with the similar content. They are utilizing a canonical tag, which I believed is a quickie approach.

Inman, who’s well-followed on Google+, had joked:

I still wish I could set up a fancy profile URL so I don’t have to link people to http://plus.google.com/blergasdf1234thimbleturdorgasm99meatpoopypoopxv9donkeypie when I want them to follow me.
