Samsung Galaxy S5: Game Changer or A Pricey Passenger?

Samsung Galaxy S5

The Samsung galaxy S5 is the latest smartphone that has generated tremendous buzz in the market. With a price that is sure to leave you a LOT lighter, it is essential to know whether it deserves what it commands! Here’s a quick look at what the latest device from the house of Samsung has to offer

By the looks of it

The back cover, which has been a major bone of contention for the Korean giants, has seen a significant change. Though it is still made of plastic (I guess all of us knew it)- but unlike the earlier shiny finishes that were unitedly disliked by buyers, Galaxy S5’s matte finished perforated back scores high on the comfort meter.

The 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen displays vibrant and rich colored images with stunning viewing angles.

It has a sharp display with Full HD resolution and 1080x1920 pixels. The level of brightness works well enough to display text during outdoor use.

Software that ain't soft

Galaxy S5 runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat combined with Samsung’s own TouchWiz.

It runs fast and gives enhanced social media connectivity through apps such as My Magazine.

GO snap

It has a 16MP camera with ISOCELL sensor that gives faster auto focusing and better quality images in low light. Galaxy S5 can shoot videos in 720P, 1080P and 4K resolution. In 720P and 1080P modes, the phone also offers 'slow' and 'fast' recording. The HDR technology that lets you to capture multi-motion snaps in a focusing time of just 0.3 seconds is a hands-on winner.

Processor and juice

Galaxy S5 is driven by octa-cored Exynos 5422 processor, and what a drive it is! Web browsing is a flash and movies can be played in most of the regular modes and resolutions, (Full HD as well).

This big boy is equipped with some astonishing battery backup. A full charge keeps the device going for around 15 to 16 hour for a 3G connection.

APP Calling!

IR Sensor

TV or set-top box can be controlled with a Galaxy S5.

Heart rate monitor

Just put your finger on top of the sensor, switch on S Health application and examine your heart beat in 5 seconds to display heart rate and is mostly accurate. But you shouldn’t start skipping your monthly appointments with the doctor because of this!

Fingerprint scanner

Though not a novelty, but it sure guarantees security, and looks cool in a quirky, M.I.B. sort of a way! With this, users can unlock the phone with their fingerprints. It works best when you swipe the fingerprint slowly and firmly in a perpendicular motion on the scanner.

IP67 standard

This ensures that the S5 can survive for a full 30 minutes under a meter of water! (No need to go for a test “dive” in a pool though!)

The Samsung galaxy S5 is fully loaded with features and should be a natural progression to the people already using a higher-end smartphone and don’t mind paying more if they get worthy services. Well the S5 seems to do just. This phone is surely the one to watch out for in the coming days!
