Facebook Common Search

Last month, Experian Marketing Services published some findings about search trends in the U.S for the 2012 year. The company discovers that Facebook was the top search word for the fourth year, accounting for 4.13% of all searches (up 33% from 2011).

This search term based on the top one thousand unfiltered search terms in the U.S. across all 60 search engines. The company doesn’t include mobile search term.

There are four different variations of this search terms “facebook” were among the top ten, accounting for 5.62% of searches overall (up 27% from last year). One most important thing is the two search terms stayed the same from year to year. Again YouTube was the second search term.


Top Ten Search Terms 2012

The top ten in 2011 were:

  4. craigslist
  5. facebook.com
  6. yahoo
  7. ebay
  8. www.facebook.com
  9. mapquest
  10. yahoo.com
For this year, the list looked like this:

  10. amazon
There is one new search term added in top ten search term that is Amazon.

The company says that social networking related search terms were dominated the search results, accounting for 6.03% of the top 50 searches, an increase of 44% compared to 2011.

Google terms, including “youtube,” accounted for 1.91%, a 20% growth from last year. Another news search terms that entered in the top 50 included: backpage, cool math games, fox news and pinterest.

There is another interesting new is "yahoo” and “ebay” have been in the top ten since the ranking was begun back in 2006.
