Social Media Trends 2013

Social media has become a part of everyone’s lives today. It is not just a way to keep in touch with family and friends but also a way for fostering online communities, sharing fields of research, exploring and sharing content etc. Professional networks are also benefiting from social media these days. Social media is now an essential part of the online presence of any business. In fact, this year will go down in history as the year that businesses leaped on to the social media bandwagon! Most businesses now embrace Twitter, Facebook and other social networks as part of their core strategy.

It is not always easy to predict what will happen in this digital landscape. Suffice to say, 2013 will be a year where even newer trends will emerge. Let us take a look at some of the possible social media trends that will pan out next year.

More Mobile Social Media Usage

It is a well known fact that mobile internet usage in the US will overtake wired usage in a couple of years. However, for social media, this shift is happening at an even more rapid pace. More and more Facebook users use Facebook on their mobile phones instead of from their personal computers. This simply means that social media networks like Instagram, which are designed for mobile devices, face a big advantage where this is concerned. 2013 is a year when other networks must also gear up and make changes with regard to social media usage. Networks will have to work on giving users more streamlined interfaces, ambient location, GPS, NFC etc. In short, give users more value added services.

More Emphasis On Visuals And Videos

2013 will mark the end of infographics but it will definitely be the year for visuals. It is fairly safe to say that content curation and creation will be ruled by the world of visuals. The keywords that one must keep in mind for visuals are innovative presentations and fresh faces. The more creative the photos, videos and graphics are the more they will capture everyone’s imagination. It is going to be all about leveraging visual content in 2013. Plus it is always great to keep in mind that most consumers and customers alike are more visual when it comes to choosing what is best for them

Hosted Content:

The following year will see a great increase with companies using social services to market their services and goods. As mentioned earlier, companies have now woken up to the fact that social media is the way to go. Especially when it comes to sharing content and information on a social media network. Social media provides companies with a platform from which they can both, host content, and interact with their target audience on a more personal level. The development of social media sites allows companies to create rich content which can be hosted by the very same social media sites. There are various hosting sites that are available, some of them offer great deals as well to entice possible consumers.

Social Shopping:

Social shopping is yet another social media trend that will pan out in 2013. Online shopping communities have continued to grow over the years and in a big way. They have been dominating online businesses for the last couple of years and has proven to be a strong competitor on the online business community. Consumers will also come together and take advantage of wholesale savings due to e-commerce purchases. Consumers will be sharing both retailer and product recommendations and their shopping experiences as well. How does this impact the business world? Businesses will find new ways of selling and interacting to these business communities. The result will be mutually beneficial relationships between the two parties.

What do you think of these trends I have spoken about? As these are just trends, many more would come and go. Are there any more trends that have caught your eye as well? Share them with me.
